Your account sees only your children

A parent account is walled to its own family. You cannot see another family’s child’s photos, records, or publications — and they cannot see yours. This is enforced at one place in the system, the family-isolation wall, not distributed across settings a family has to discover. The wall is fail-closed: if the system cannot verify your relationship to a student record, it returns nothing. Not a permission you set. A structural guarantee.

Minors & privacy — the hard rules

A minor’s photo is never public without a released consent. The public web is default-deny.

Your child’s photos do not live on a public URL unless your family has released consent for that use. They are not indexed by search engines. They are not visible to families from other schools, or to other students at the same school. They are not sold to advertisers. They are not used to train AI models. Apart from a consent your family releases, these are not privacy settings you discover after signup. They are the default behavior of the system, enforced at infrastructure level.

The family-isolation wall means your account sees only your own children’s records. Enforced at one place in the system, fail-closed: if it cannot verify your relationship to a student record, it returns nothing. Not a permission you set or a policy you agree to. A structural guarantee that cannot be overridden from a parent account.

The parent journey runs from your school’s onboarding invitation through picture day, publications, and year-end. Each step is honest about what is early access and what is available through your school when it joins.

Step 1 · Your school joins

The platform activates for your school. Your family receives a direct notice from the school — not a cold marketing email — explaining what the platform does, what you are being invited to opt into, and what changes if you do not. No consent is assumed. No data about your child is collected before you have the full picture and make an active choice.

Step 2 · You decide

You opt in, or you do not. Opting in means your child’s consented photos and contributions can appear in the shared digital yearbook and school publications, and your family receives the free digital yearbook at year-end. If you do not opt in, your child is still in the school and still in every programme — just not in the shared book. Nothing else about their school experience changes. You can change your mind at any time.

Step 3 · The year unfolds

Your family hub shows your child’s school life as it is published: a yearbook spread they appear in, a newspaper piece they wrote, a recognition moment an adviser approved. You see it because it is yours — scoped to your family, not a public timeline or a broadcast feed. When picture day happens, school photos go into your portal for your review.

Step 4 · Photo day arrives

Your child’s school photos appear in your portal. You review them before placing any order. Prints and digital downloads can be ordered at your own pace, with no envelope-day deadline. Order fulfillment ships directly to your home from the photo lab your school works with. You can order nothing at all if you choose — the photos stay in your portal.

Step 5 · Year-end — the book arrives

The free digital yearbook publishes for every family that opted in. Your child has a page. If you want a printed copy, you can order one from your account at your own pace. Your family’s data stays yours: one-click export is available, and consent can be withdrawn even after the school year ends.

What is parent.software?

What does “consent-gated” mean for my child’s photos?

Every photo that depicts your child requires your active consent before it appears in any shared school publication. Until you opt in, your child’s photos are not visible to other families and are not included in the shared digital book. Consent is not a one-time enrollment checkbox — it is a running, revocable choice you hold in your account. The system logs every grant and every withdrawal.

Can I withdraw consent after I’ve already opted in?

Yes. You can withdraw consent at any time from your parent account. When you withdraw, your child’s photos and data are removed from shared publications. Any records the platform holds about your child can be deleted on request. Withdrawal takes effect immediately and does not require contacting the school or submitting a support ticket. These rights do not expire after the school year ends.

What does the parent portal show me?

Ordering is always your choice; there is no subscription and nothing is ever charged automatically.

What happens if I do not opt in?

Nothing changes about your child’s school experience. They are not excluded from the school, from clubs, from recognition, or from any programme. They simply do not appear in the shared digital yearbook or any shared publication. The school still has its own enrollment record of your child. What you are opting out of is the publication layer, not the school.

Who can see my child’s photos?

Only your family’s account, the school’s adviser (who approves what enters shared publications), and the platform’s infrastructure team (for system maintenance) can see your child’s photos. No photo is on a public URL. No photo is indexed by search engines. No photo is visible to other families. Minor student photos are stored on our own systems and are never sold, shared with advertisers, or used to train AI models.

Can I request a copy of my child’s data?

Yes. A complete data export — every photo, every consent record, every publication appearance — is available on request directly from your parent account. This is a COPPA §312.6 right and the platform treats it as one: it is accessible without a support ticket and fulfilled without delay. If you request deletion of your child’s data, it is removed from the platform and from any shared publication that included it.
